Not only is the small town of Windsor located just north of the Sonoma County Airport, which makes it a convenient place to stay, but it’s also smack in the middle of some of the best wine regions in Northern California. The town itself is in the Russian River Valley American Viticultural Area, and just a few miles to the north is Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, and Alexander Valley. But be sure to spend some time hanging out with the locals in the town plaza, with it’s cute shops, trendy restaurants, and hardly any tourists at all.

Everyone knows Wine Country is a foodie mecca. But it’s not just because of the endless array of world-class restaurants: Sonoma County produces some of the finest meats, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables on earth, and if you love to cook, the Winelight Vineyard Cottage is a safe bet. There’s a big kitchen complete with cooking supplies, and the nearby Windsor Certified Farmer’s Market runs most of the year on Sundays, as well as on Thursdays during the summer, giving plenty of fresh, super-local options to choose from.
